Backlog refinement without the endless slide deck
Refinement fails when it becomes a read-aloud session. Bring stories as physical or digital cards, enforce a two-minute explanation cap, and force a visible slice before opening discussion.
Use a timer and a facilitator who is forbidden to type during the meeting; typing kills listening. Rotate scribes so product and engineering share the keyboard burden.
Close with a crisp deferral list: what we consciously did not decide yet, and who owns the next spike. That list is your antidote to vague worry between meetings.
